He is on the mend, and I need to continue to celebrate that, but I like to see him playing... We walk but both of us know, it isn't the real deal- we want to be on trails. Above he is pictured giving me endless love. This dog has never let me down, he doesn't bring his "shit" to the table (if ya know what I mean), and certainly is selfless. A lesson each and every one of us in America could learn. Selflessness is something I think we've forgotten in this country.
Anyway, I am now feeding our cancer fighting pup with a real food diet.. yes, a human diet. Here's the research I've done on kibble, in a nutshell- similar to our packaged and processed food, it.....
1. Is void of many nutrients due to high heat processing, fillers, etc.
2. There are food particles and chemicals baked in that are not good for any living thing
3. Labeling is vague with hidden scary "ingredients" (do a quick google search)
4. Most processed dog food feeds cancer (hmm not too different from our how human diet).
So, I've come up with a stew you can share with your canine friend and I think ... its amazing!
Here we were two weeks ago, fever, tumor, pain.... NO FUN and a mama feeling utterly hopeless. Lack of sleep had me in tears often. How could I make the pain stop? Conventional medicine's answer=more potent (and frankly dangerous) meds.. More meds=more lethargy, more stomach distress (yes a very ugly and scary GI bleed).. Then I found a great integrative vet (thank the lord as I prayed for information to come my way).
So now that Buck's bowl will get filled with the same food as ours- here is the very first recipe we tried together!
2 lbs organic (yes folks) ground turkey
4 cups diced yams or sweet potatoes
2 cups thawed spinach OR broccoli
1 1/2 cups frozen okra
1/3-1/2 olive oil
1 cup water
1 tablespoon finely chopped rosemary (fresh)
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Combine all ingredients in crock pot or stock pot. Cook for 6 hours on LOW setting (remember the higher you heat the more nutrients you lose).
Humans- feel free to add salt and black pepper to your bowl- but don't do so for your pup.
pretty easy huh?
From the pup that is teaching me how to trust and love selflessly,
